All About Africa

In 2005, Malachy Harty and Niamh O Riordan, from East Cork, created the All About Africa development education project. We left Ireland on April 13th, 2005 on an overland trip through Africa. We travelled from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa in eight months, arriving home just in time for Christmas on December 22nd, 2005.

Spurred on by his experiences in Africa, Malachy went on to study International Development and Food Policy at UCC and graduated in 2011. Since then, he has been working with NGOs in Ireland and Africa, with a healthy dose of hiking and swimming whenever possible. At the moment, Malachy is working with Irish Aid in Palestine. He continues to take on occasional photography jobs, although most of the time he carries his camera for fun.

Niamh recently completed a PhD in Business Information Systems at University College Cork and has taken up a postdoctoral research fellowship at National University of Ireland, Galway. Though now pursuing a career as an academic, Niamh retains a strong interest in international development. In particular, she is interested in the potential of mobile health technologies to make a meaningful difference in the developing world.
